Shanghai Zhabei Suzhou Creek
A fresh perspective gives a Shanghai district a new identity.
Faced with too much traffic and a lack of usable green space, leaders of central Shanghai’s Zhabei District knew they needed to make some major improvements. CallisonRTKL incorporated public transit and natural landmarks into the master plan, attracting visitors and driving economic development for the entire region. The plan includes diverse zones, each with its own character that collectively define a sense of place. It encourages green living with easy access to public transit and cycling and pedestrian sidewalks, while raising the neighborhood’s profile within the region.
