Katherine G. Johnson Computational Research Facility

40,000-SF Computational Research facility at NASA's Langley Research Center, Hampton Roads, VA

As the Architect of Record and Engineer of Record for the Katherine G. Johnson Computational Research Facility (CRF), CallisonRTKL designed the new 40,000-SF, institutional administrative and data center facility, under a Design-Build contract for NASA under the management of the USACE Norfolk District.

The Tier II facility is comprised of a 3,000-SF secure data center, high-density office space, 1100 ton Chiller Plant, two secondary substations, UPS system and emergency power for 5.5MVA load. Near the Langley Research Center (LaRC) main entrance, the secure facility is visible from the road with a predominate visual presence on campus. The CRF facility meets NASA’s requirements for intense research and reliability standards for computing and serves as a significant aesthetic addition to the campus.
