Bay Front Park Levee and Floodwall Protection

Twenty-nine acres of parkland to the east and west of a water treatment facility serving Long Island were reprogrammed and redeveloped as part of a resiliency initiative

Bay Park has been in the Nassau County park system since 1947 and provides fitness and activities for the community including bike paths and trails system, sports courts, picnic areas, a playground, fishing and boating dock, a dog park and a privatized roller rink. As part of a resiliency initiative to harden a water treatment facility serving Long Island and as a result of the damage from Hurricane Sandy, Bay Park to the east and west sides of the facility were reprogrammed and redeveloped. Designers faced the challenge of enhancing its value to the community through its reconstruction.
