Johns Hopkins University Mt. Washington Data Center

Multi-Year Updates

As the first part of a long-standing, collaborative project with Johns Hopkins University, CallisonRTKL was asked to assess the data center infrastructure at JHU’s Mt. Washington Campus in Baltimore. The assessment provided an overall view of MEP critical infrastructure supporting the data center, along with proposed repairs or upgrades needed for the data center to continue operating. Upon completion, CRTKL moved forward to provide total design services, construction administration, commissioning support and post occupancy services for multiple projects associated with the data center.

CRTKL spearheaded three previous upgrades to the MEP infrastructure between 2004-2013. With each update came more space, newer equipment and increased efficiency. In 2016, CRTKL completed the design to provide dedicated 2MW N+1 standby generator plant, dedicated chiller plant and dedicated utility services, with two dedicated 2MW cast coil unit substation transformer and PLC controlled Main-Tie-Tie – Main Switchgear lineups.
