The Food Hall at Hubindao Shopping Center

CallisonRTKL’s design for the Food Hall at Hubindao Shopping Center is inspired by Shanghai’s traditional street food vendors, creating an underground foodie scene that indulges tourists in local culture and gives workers an exceptional dining option within their own office building. Curating a distinct sense of place was key: reclaimed parts from vendor carts, bold graffiti, vintage street posters and an interactive floor map showcasing the neighborhood’s history bring the concept to life. A spiral staircase connects to the upper retail floors and an intimate, private dining patio. Collectively, these design elements offer a new twist on the modern food court.
