ULI Infrastructure Forum: CRTKL Plays a Prominent Role in Speaking About Addressing Aging and New Infrastructure

Announcement | June 3, 2020

NEW YORK, New York – June 3, 2020 — Senior Associate Vice President Renee Schoonbeek from CallisonRTKL’s New York City office is scheduled to be a featured speaker the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Infrastructure Forum Spring 2020 Webinar Series.

The ULI Infrastructure Forum brings together experts from a wide range of professions to showcase examples of how cities are addressing aging infrastructure and demands for new infrastructure. Speakers will discuss examples in both large and small cities, near and far, in order to uncover how the relationship between real estate and infrastructure can evolve and what other emerging players and factors are playing into this important dialogue of how to plan, fund and execute better infrastructure faster.

CRTKL’s Schoonbeek will moderate a webinar on June 18, 2020 to discuss “Electrification: How does the drive toward decarbonizing the grid and electrifying buildings impact urban development?”

She will explore how to achieve ambitious climate goals. “Many communities are looking to replace gas with electricity generated through clean energy like solar, wind and water. The main goals vary from reducing carbon emissions as part of climate action plans to addressing insufficient gas supply to meet growing energy needs and safety concerns heightened by explosions due to gas leaking from aging infrastructure,” she says. “Regardless of what drives the desire for change, investments will need to be made in new energy infrastructure. What is the cost and who pays? How does it impact urban development? Recognizing geographic differences and region-specific issues, how do developers respond to the changing energy infrastructure demands?”

In addition to moderating her discussion, Schoonbeek helped coordinate other webinar discussions in the series. They include:

• June 4: Flood Protection + Real Estate: Reducing the Risks, 1:00 p.m. ET; Moderated by Stephen Engblom, AECOM.

• June 11: The Future of Infrastructure & Real Estate – Transit, 1:00 p.m. ET; Moderated by Bill Anderson, ARUP.

• June 18: Electrification: How does the drive toward decarbonizing the grid and electrifying buildings impact urban development? 1:00 p.m. ET; Moderated by Renee Schoonbeek, CallisonRTKL.
