The Travis Tops Out in Houston’s Midtown District

Announcement | October 1, 2019

DALLAS, TEXAS – October 1, 2019 – CallisonRTKL, the global architecture, planning and design practice, announces that construction has topped out for The Travis: a luxury, 30-story residential tower in the heart of Houston’s Midtown District. Developed by Madison Marquette, The Travis will set a new standard for what has become one of Houston’s most active districts, offering units at an average of 1,114 square feet and more amenities than any other area development. Midtown is a rapidly developing area known for its arts, entertainment, nightlife, and walkability, and The Travis sits right next door to the city’s Midtown Arts Theater Center Houston.

“Houston’s Midtown is a hot, competitive market right now,” says Tom Brink AIA, CRTKL’s vice president in charge. “So we knew we had to raise the bar on design and, especially, amenities. It’s great to see Midtown emerge as an ideal downtown neighborhood thanks to projects like The Travis and the vision of Madison Marquette.”

Located only two blocks from the Metrorail, The Travis sits on over an acre and is set to open its doors—offering 328 residential units and over 15,000 square feet of streetscape retail and restaurants—in spring 2020. Residents will enjoy access to a two-story fitness center, aqua lounge, Olympic-sized pool and three-quarter acre amenity deck overlooking Main Street. Public spaces will have a metropolitan vibe via a mix of textures and finishes like concrete columns, lapis blue stonework, and glass mosaic accents that add interest with modern styling. The Travis also features a ribbon that cascades down the face of the building to tie together all these amenities and public spaces. The building, tracking to LEED gold, also offers incredible downtown views on the north and continuous balconies on the south.

“The Travis is built at a time when mid-career professionals and Millennials want to live in a walkable community,” Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said at the building’s topping off ceremony, “This represents the future of the city: dynamic, growing, and vibrant.”

CRTKL specializes in the planning and design of urban mixed-use districts and multi-family residential, which have become catalysts for downtown regeneration in many cities across the country. With housing prices increasing, developers are turning to design and top-of-the-market amenities as a way of distinguishing their projects.

“We’re happy to push the envelope wherever we can,” says Brink. “We know that satisfied residents are more likely to extend their leases, so we integrate those types of things that foster an active social component. Projects like The Travis become the connective tissue of successful communities.”

The leasing office for The Travis opens today, October 1.
