Newcastle Limited’s Mixed-Use Development in Chicago Breaks Ground

Announcement | November 23, 2020

CHICAGO, Ill.—November 23, 2020—Global architecture, planning and design firm CallisonRTKL announced today that Newcastle Limited’s mixed-use development at 1210 N. State Parkway in the Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago has broken ground. CallisonRTKL partnered with Newcastle Limited to design the 12-story project of 89 residential units and 17,600 square feet of retail space on the ground floor in this historic community. The design also widens the sidewalks and adds trees to further enhance the streetscape. The building offers a strong human-centric experience at a vibrant corner of State Street. Both the residential building and the small-format retail embrace the character of the neighborhood.

“CallisonRTKL and Newcastle Limited worked with the community and the city of Chicago to design a building that was a complement to the historic Gold Coast Neighborhood while also providing the modern amenities and features that will make it a one-of-a-kind experience for its residents,” said CallisonRTKL’s Nicholas Spoor AIA, the lead designer of the project.

The new development will offer a landscaped roof deck as well as interior and outdoor amenity spaces. The outdoor space will include a private dog walk. The building was designed with both health and wellbeing in mind and will seek Fitwel Certification.

CallisonRTKL’s Chicago office has a long history of successful projects including Pointe O’Hare, Roosevelt Collection, Eleven33, REI Lincoln Park and Presence Center for Advanced Care at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital. New mixed-use developments include projects in Lincolnwood and Naperville. The Chicago office has also partnered with Preservation Chicago to offer solutions for saving the Hotel Guyon in the West Garfield Park Neighborhood and Washington Park National Bank on the South Side.
