DALLAS, TX—November 1, 2019—CallisonRTKL, in partnership with Eofficial Enterprises, Inc. and the City of Odessa, announce the grand opening of the newly-designed Odessa Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. Located in the heart of downtown Odessa, the 328,000-gross square foot, 216-key hotel is the first of its kind as the only full-service, nationally branded hotel with the largest conference center and ballroom in the region. It also includes the refurbished Ector Theater—a historic performance and event venue originally built in 1951 that sits next to the new development at the corner of 5th Street and Texas Avenue.
“We wanted to incorporate the existing infrastructure of the city into our design, so the space felt fully integrated,” says Sarah Fox, associate vice president in CallisonRTKL’s Dallas office and lead designer on the project. “The design links the kinetic nature of architecture to the kinetic nature of the pump jacks that populate the backdrop of Odessa.”
“I could feel the excitement building in the community every time I visited the job site,” says Roger Sotelo, associate and project architect in CallisonRTKL’s Dallas office. “One passerby told me the need for a conference center in Odessa dates back several years. I’m excited that Eofficial Enterprises and the City of Odessa is already seeing that the project is a catalyst for other development downtown.”
To celebrate the grand opening of this soon-to-be fixture of the community along with the renovation of the long-beloved Ector Theater, the Odessa Marriott Hotel & Conference Center will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to honor the past, party in the present and toast to the future of the city of Odessa. The ribbon-cutting took place on Thursday, October 24th at the new space on 305 E 5th St.
“We’re excited for the hotel to become an iconic building in Odessa’s skyline,” adds Fox. “The idea that the building becomes a piece of art, set apart from the rest of the development in Odessa is intentional – it’s an object to be seen and a story to be told.”
