Cook Children’s Medical Center South Tower Opens

Announcement | January 30, 2018

DALLAS, TX – January 29, 2018 – CallisonRTKL, the global architecture and design practice, is proud to announce the opening of the South Tower project at Cook Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) in Fort Worth, Texas. The nine-level South Tower expansion project consists of 318,800 SF of new construction and 101,000 SF of renovation.

“The South Tower project at CCMC is a key component of a 50-year campus master plan to make CCMC a preeminent Children’s institution,” said CallisonRTKL Senior Vice President Wayne Barger. “CallisonRTKL is fortunate to be a part of this process.”

CallisonRTKL was the Architect of Record and provided medical equipment planning, construction administration, procurement, logistics, and transition planning services to the project. Major components include lab, emergency department, surgical services, heart center, and inpatient and outpatient psych services. A unique implementation of an iMRI is utilized in interventional operating rooms to prevent risk with moving patients from an operating room to an MRI and back, which ultimately increases safety. The project utilized an integrated project design (IPD) process, which called for four major phases – Criteria Design, Detailed Design, Implementation Design and Construction. CallisonRTKL joined the process during the Detailed Design Phase.
