Construction Begins at the CallisonRTKL-designed Medical Pavilion at White Oak

Announcement | January 8, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC—January 8, 2019—CallisonRTKL, the global architecture and design practice, in partnership with Trammel Crow Company, celebrates the start of construction on the Medical Pavilion at White Oak, a seven-story, 169,000-SF best-in-class healthcare space as part of the Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center campus.

Adventist MD

The Medical Pavilion consolidates a series of clinical services in a flexible and community-focused format. The location, design and technology make it an ideal complement to the medical center, also designed by CallisonRTKL and currently under construction.

“It’s great to see the project underway,” says CallisonRTKL Vice President Jim Curran AIA, LEED AP, CSSGB. “The Medical Pavilion is an excellent example of how leading healthcare operators are enhancing the patient experience by bringing care closer to the community as well as focusing on the clinician, who is looking for a more efficient and flexible platform for their services.”

Adventist HealthCare will anchor the Medical Pavilion, which is expected to open in January 2020 and house various specialties and programs, including: cardiovascular, oncology, education, and rehabilitation.

Strategically located on the new medical campus, the Medical Pavilion and the hospital are part of a broader vision—the White Oak Science Gateway master plan—a developing life sciences community that brings together medical researchers, businesses and commercial tenants. The 48-acre White Oak campus is situated adjacent to the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) headquarters, and the Viva White Oak mixed-use development project, both central to the emerging life sciences community. Combining the surrounding health and life science corridor and the connection to the new hospital, the Medical Pavilion will provide an efficient and highly organized patient-centered care environment.
