CallisonRTKL Wins Two Mixed-Use Design Competitions in China

Announcement | January 29, 2018

CallisonRTKL is honored to have been named the winner of two recent design competitions in China. The first commission, Hangzhou Qianjiang New City, is a collection of three residential-driven, mixed-use developments offering a unique blend of amenities, recreation and services to residents. Our team’s deep understanding of the local market and community needs informed the design of locally influenced, contemporary architecture with a distinct sense of place.

“The design aim for Hangzhou Qianjiang New City is indicative of a larger trend focused on community development in China,” said Richard Huang, senior associate vice president in CallisonRTKL’s Dallas office. “After three decades, the market has come a long way, but services and amenities have not kept up with demand. Our designs aim to close that gap and elevate quality of life in the environments we create.”

The second commission, Wuhan Yangchun Lake, is a commercially-driven entertainment district that will benefit from its strategic locale just west of the city’s high-speed rail station. The 600,000-square-meter development will play host to OCT’s new high-tech entertainment brand, Supercenter, along with a mix of retail, commercial, office, hotel space and serviced apartments.

“The idea is that Wuhan Yangchun Lake will become a district-wide nexus of energy thanks to its synergistic relationship with the Wuhan Railway Station and strong connectivity to surrounding districts,” said Yung-Jen Tai, vice president in CallisonRTKL’s Dallas office. “OCT is China’s number one entertainment and tourism brand, and we’re proud to lead the effort to take their vision to the next level through iconic architecture and dynamic mixed-use spaces that redefine the central business district paradigm.”

Congratulations to the team! We look forward to seeing these projects come to fruition.
