HONG KONG — May 4, 2020 — CallisonRTKL announces that the Van Don Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh Province, whose development plan the firm designed, has been approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The project is a 2,200 square kilometer Special Economic Zone in northern Vietnam with over 43,000 hectares of developable land spread over thirty islands and across the Van Hai archipelago adjacent to Ha Long Bay– a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“Van Don SEZ is envisioned as a gateway to Vietnam, connecting people, commerce and ideas while protecting the natural environment, cultural resources and local traditions,” says CallisonRTKL Vice President Dianne Legge. “The plan celebrates the uniqueness, vitality and aspirations of this iconic destination. Here is an opportunity to invest in a new way of life—living with nature. The vision for the Van Don Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a resilient, sustainable and smart development which preserves natural assets and leverages innovative technologies.”

“This truly comprehensive, outcome-driven plan considered the social, environmental and economic impact along with the physical design of new places and spaces,” says Maysho Prashad, CallisonRTKL Associate Vice President, who attended the February event announcing the Prime Minister’s approval.
