LONDON – April 10, 2019 – CallisonRTKL-designed Mercedes Platz in Berlin has won the 2019 Global RLI (Retail & Leisure International) Award for the Most Innovative Retail and Entertainment Project. Situated across from the largest remaining section of the Berlin Wall, Mercedes Platz is an exciting mixed-use destination surrounding Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Four main zones connect the Mercedes-Benz Arena with the East Side Gallery and the River Spree, each with a distinct identity and mix of uses. To respect the historical significance of the site, the zones steadily progress in scale and intensity, beginning with strong urban forms that become bigger and bolder closer to the arena.
