CallisonRTKL has been a mainstay at Tysons Corner Center for 30 years, most recently designing a 1.4 million-SF expansion.
Built in 1968, Tysons Corner Center is one of the most economically successful developments in the country, welcoming 22 million visitors per year—even more than the Smithsonian in nearby Washington, D.C. CallisonRTKL’s relationship with Tysons began in the 1980’s when the firm designed the mall’s first expansion. The mall’s evolution continued in 2005 with a CallisonRTKL-designed renovation and expansion and again in 2007, when CallisonRTKL began leading the master planning and re-zoning effort that expanded Tysons Corner Center from a 2.3 million-SF retail center to a six million-SF transit-oriented, urban mixed-used environment.
