Underscoring CallisonRTKL’s commitment to designing to cultural context, the 1.1 million-SF Multiplaza Pacific embraces and enhances Panama City’s economic and cultural resources with an innovative, pinwheel-shaped design. With the immediate success of the initial CallisonRTKL-designed Multiplaza Pacific shopping center in 2004, Grupo Roble turned to the firm again to design the first expansion in 2006, Luxury Avenue, encompassing one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of luxury retailers in a single destination. CallisonRTKL also designed the third and most recent expansion, which added anchors, restaurants and a large community gathering space. A Marriott Courtyard hotel, which opened with the original mall, was expanded two years later to meet increasing tourism demand. Multiplaza Pacific has become the standard for thoughtful, market-driven retail design and among the most successful retail/mixed-use developments in Central America.
