CallisonRTKL and Habberstad BMW Open North American BMW Future Retail Facility and achieve LEED Silver Certification

HUNTINGTON STATION, NY—JUNE 28, 2018—The new +43,391-SF Habberstad BMW showroom has already made its mark. Habberstad BMW partnered with CallisonRTKL to replace their existing dealership structure with a state-of-the-art building following the BMW Future Retail Facility guidelines. The boutique-inspired showroom is the first BMW Future Retail Facility in North America to achieve LEED Silver Certification.

“This project is proof that when a brand, owner and design team are all aligned on the end goal, great things can happen that benefit every user of this magnificent building,” said Matt Usbeck, Senior Associate Vice President at CallisonRTKL.

Upon entering the 16-car showroom, customers are met with high-reaching ceilings, large storefront bays and a skylight allowing for natural light to filter in and create an open, vivid environment. A customer lounge, coffee bar and BMW lifestyle shop intersect at reception—all contributing to the customer-centric experience.

“Habberstad’s commitment to sustainability embodies BMW’s belief in a greener future for all. We are proud of Habberstad BMW’s accomplishment of achieving LEED Silver Certification and thank them for their commitment and dedication to the BMW brand,” said Don Chamberlain, Dealer Standards Manager of BMW North America.

Beyond the walls, CRTKL incorporated a building management system (BMS), centralized lighting systems, daylight dimming controls, energy recovery systems and interior LED lighting. All main finishes are U.S. Green Building Council compliant.

“The design, engineering and manufacture of electric vehicles by any brand is a good step in moving toward a sustainable future. Selling the cars in a LEED Certified building brings us closer to achieving the desired result,” said Habberstad BMW.

The service department contains 18 lifts, tire changing equipment, a car wash station with a water reclamation system and space for service expansion. Innovation in design credit for carwash water reclaim was implemented; a green thumb is ever-present throughout the building.
