CRTKL Signs On to COP26 – the 2021 UN Climate Change Conference

Announcement | September 9, 2021

LONDON, United Kingdom – September 9, 2021 — In November, the UK, together with Italy, will host an event many believe to be the world’s best last chance to get runaway climate change under control. COP26 is the 2021 United Nations climate change conference

For nearly three decades, the UN has brought together almost every country on earth for global climate summits – called COPs (Conference of the Parties). In that time, climate change has gone from being a fringe issue to a global priority. This year will be the 26th annual summit – giving it the name COP26. CRTKL has signed on to the agreement as a pledge of commitment to building a greener world.

“The climate crisis affects all species in our planet and the built environment is the main contributor,” begins Pablo La Roche, Principal at CRTKL. “As architects, our designs have the responsibility to protect our planet. We are committed to a positive impact on the planet and the communities around us, with special emphasis on reducing our impact on climate change while considering climate justice. We are proud to be a signatory of the COP26 Communiqué and are taking specific actions to reduce emissions from our practice and our operations to achieve the Paris Agreement’s 1.5ºC goal.”

CRTKL is already Climate Neutral in our operations and has established a goal for our designs to be zero carbon by 2030 and including embodied carbon by 2040. “However, this is not enough,” La Roche continues. “We are moving towards the design of regenerative buildings and climate positive –  in which interconnected systems consider biodiversity and locality and improve the environment around them with a positive impact on the planet. Our buildings go beyond doing less harm to the environment to actually doing good for it.”
