DALLAS, Texas – October 16, 2020 — CallisonRTKL served as a silver sponsor for the AIA Dallas Women in Architecture EMPOWERING Conference on Friday, October 2nd. CRTKL’s Aarohi Pilankar, Associate Vice President in our Dallas office, served as co-chair for the conference and introduced the keynote speaker, Pascale Sablan, AIA.
Later in the day, CRTKL’s Katie Sprague, Senior Vice President in our Los Angeles office, presented on the Happiness by Design initiative: a proprietary methodology for measuring and applying happiness to the built environment. Happiness by Design was developed by a team including CRTKL’s Jodi Williams, Lori Lampe and Alexia Chuck and partners at Delivering Happiness and Mountain View.
Before they could measure happiness, though, they had to define it. Guided by the “5 Truths of Happiness” — meaning, vitality, delight, freedom and engagement — the team developed the “happiness index”: a baseline survey distributed amongst the user base to score happiness by category of user. In the case of her EMPOWERING presentation, Sprague used a workplace as an example. In this case, user categorization includes administrators, employers and investors. Once collecting information from the happiness index, she explained how to then implement happiness into both design and, in this example, workplace programs like benefits and flexibility.
