CallisonRTKL Designer Eduardo Castañeda Wins AIA National Associates Award

Announcement | February 24, 2020

Eduardo Castañeda, a designer in CallisonRTKL’s Dallas office, has been chosen as a recipient of the 2020 AIA National Associates Award. The award recognizes outstanding leaders and creative thinkers for significant contributions to their communities and the architecture profession.  Castañeda will be recognized at the AIA National Convention May 14-16 in Los Angeles and locally at Celebrate Architecture, hosted by AIA Dallas, on April 2.

“Throughout his career at CallisonRTKL, Eddie is always at the forefront of innovation and a highly sought-after designer and team leader for important projects and competitions,” says CallisonRTKL Senior Vice President Jeff Gunning, FAIA  “His advocacy for Latinos in architecture inspired him to lead the organizing AIA committee and CRTKL’s team for a clay shoot benefitting Dallas AIA Latinos in Architecture. Eddie is already on a path toward a full career of design and social influence through architecture.”

A native of Dallas-Fort Worth, Castañeda received his Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Texas at Arlington. In 2014, he began as an intern at CallisonRTKL. Since then, his accomplishments with the firm have been highly revered–from his work across the globe to pro-bono projects that have connected fellow designer team members together with each other and the greater community. Some of his notable projects include the Vertical Campus in Downtown Dallas and the Mall of Saudi in Saudi Arabia.

“His proficiency and work with emerging technologies like 3D printing, parametric modeling and VR is helping to set CallisonRTKL apart from other large firms as an innovator in our industry,” says CallisonRTKL Vice President Brendan O’Grady.

Castañeda’s continued involvement and leadership in the AIA Latinos in Architecture network has molded a community of architects and designers into a force for change in the profession at large. During his tenure, LiA has helped to form a Fort Worth Chapter, established scholarship programs for Latino-born students interested in pursuing the field of architecture and led the creation of a book drive to provide high school students with the essential texts needed to prepare themselves for the collegiate experience that lies ahead.
