Pinecrest Commencement Celebrates Opportunity to Thank Partners and Kick Off a Summer of Opening Celebrations

CHICAGO, IL – June 21, 2018 – CallisonRTKL is attending a commencement event today at Pinecrest, a 750,000-SF mixed-use development in Orange Village, Ohio, along with the firm’s clients, Fairmount Properties and The DiGeronimo Companies. Located just 20 minutes southeast of Cleveland, Pinecrest includes 400,000 SF of retail, including apparel, home and specialty stores, as well as restaurants with outdoor seating, a dine-in movie theater, two Class A office buildings with 160,000 SF of space, a 145-room AC Hotel by Marriott and 87 luxury residences. A parking deck provides 754 spaces. CallisonRTKL was responsible for architecture, interior design, wayfinding and environmental graphic design.

Pinecrest’s tenant mix features major brands, including REI, West Elm, Whole Foods, Pinstripes and Silverspot Cinema. An additional draw is its open-air, main street-inspired environment, featuring plentiful gathering spaces and amenities.

“The typical suburban mall master plan is focused on the leasable footprint of its buildings rather than the spaces between them,” said Keith Campbell, Vice President in CallisonRTKL’s Chicago office. “The idea behind Pinecrest was to create a livable destination that would encourage not only shopping, dining and recreation, but community engagement and growth. We worked closely with the mayor, the planning and zoning committee and Orange Village residents to conceive of a master plan that makes the most of every usable space.”

To that end, the office, cinema, retail, residential and hotel buildings engage the streetscape via entryways, roof terraces and balconies. A signature plaza with a monumental stair turns necessary circulation into an opportunity for a unique experience, while also providing event seating. A compact secondary green space adjacent to Warby Parker further enhances Pinecrest’s public realm.

Following the commencement event, a series of celebratory events are planned throughout summer 2018.
