Build to Rent at its Best: The Wullcomb Shortlisted in the FX International Design Awards

Announcement | September 17, 2020

LONDON, England– September 17, 2020– CRTKL’s residential interior design project, The Wullcomb has been shortlisted in the 2020 FX Design Awards. Coming under a newly introduced category for the Build to Rent/Private Rental Sector, this award is a testament to the burgeoning sector and recognises best in class interior design works from around the world.

In collaboration with Long Harbour and Way of Life, CRTKL conceived The Wullcomb. Designed specifically for rent, every element of this project was crafted with the resident and the guest in mind. For the first time, operational efficiency and management protocols were understood in terms of resident experience and embedded in the plans from the outset.

Defining a new model for Build-to-Rent that proves the profit will come if people are put first, The Wullcomb is a vertical neighbourhood that captures the personality of its residents and surrounding community, connecting them all with an enhanced lifestyle offering.

“By focusing on the lives and interests of the people living here, we have been able to create communal places that feel like an extension of the home. The design compliments the social programs offered by Way of Life, with places to meet up with your friends and neighbours. Like any contemporary home, the space is designed to be flexible and evolve with the people living there, allowing it to be personalised and to reflect the growing community,” said Erik Mueller-Ali, project lead and Director at CRTKL.

Amenities within The Wullcomb exemplify the priorities we have seen come to the fore in recent months, with mixed-use interior spaces, outdoor connections, and individual spaces for living and working all featuring heavily. The private roof terrace, open plan communal kitchen and dining area, shared workspace, library, mailroom, multi-purpose screening and games room, and cycle storage. Each space is carefully considered and curated, with tenants embracing these as an extension of their individual apartments.

“This reflects our desire to create communities, not just buildings. The interior design brief we subscribe to is about understanding the personality of a neighbourhood and creating a space that complements its surroundings. We want people to feel they part of the place and like they belong. We are especially proud of the feedback we have received from people who have made The Wullcomb their home.” said Erik.

Completed in 2019, The Wullcomb has since become the number one place to live in Leicester, with its resident reviews and ratings among the highest on Homeviews.

Organised by FX Magazine, the FX International Design Awards will this year take place via virtual ceremony on 25th November at 7:30 pm (GMT), with winners announced thereafter.
