University of California San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center and Thornton Hospital Expansion
One of California’s largest university hospitals plans for the future needs of its community.
In 2005, the University of California San Diego Health System came to CallisonRTKL with an ambitious undertaking in mind—adding a new 128,000-SF comprehensive cardiovascular center (CVC) to Thornton Hospital on the La Jolla campus. UCSD’s ultimate objective was to expedite the process of translating discovery into better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart disease. To accomplish this, CallisonRTKL consolidated all inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular services into one convenient center, making it the first in the San Diego region to combine cardiovascular research, education and patient care under one roof.
