Shaw Campus Data Center

Telecommunication giant Shaw Communications relied on CallisonRTKL to lead the design of their new data center.

For Shaw’s new data center, the telecommunications company approached CallisonRTKL to design this four-story project in conjunction with an office building addition on the Shaw Business Campus. The data center will support two levels of reliability divided across two data floors. This project is designed to LEED Gold standards, and includes viewing windows into the data centers as focal points in the breakout areas for the office. The data center will support two levels of reliability divided into two data floors. A 1,525-SM, 400-rack Tier 2-2N server room will be serviced by a completely isolated mechanical/electrical system. This system provides 6.5 kW per rack. The racks are cooled utilizing a pressurized raised floor and floor mounted AHUs. The 1,757-SM 480-rack Tier 3-2N data center is designed for 11 kW per rack. The racks are cooled using a contained hot aisle pod design, each pod consisting of 30 racks. Driven by Shaw’s telecommunications services, the program requires that both data floors are provided with two-thirds AC power and one-third DC power, requiring two separate DC power plants.
