Sandton City
A long-standing mixed-use development gets a major retail and community upgrade.
Sandton City was originally built in the 1970s and has set the pace for retail in South Africa for more than three decades. Although it was already one of the continent’s most well-known developments, Liberty Properties commissioned CallisonRTKL to reposition the existing site and create a new iconic destination for Johannesburg. Extensive future development is in the works, but the refurbished shopping center and new retail space have already boosted visitors and helped Sandton City regain its position as one of the most sought-after retail destinations in Africa.
