Downtown L.A. gets major tourism and revenue boost by implementing CallisonRTKL's master plan.
Since its completion in 2000, the Staples Center has been a powerful catalyst for the renewal of downtown Los Angeles. Eager to continue with this revitalization, the facility’s owner hired CallisonRTKL to master plan a 33-acre urban district along the area’s southern edge. Under the expectation that the district would attract six million visitors annually, CallisonRTKL envisioned L.A. LIVE, a mix of uses that complements the arena and convention center. CallisonRTKL also provided architecture and environmental graphic design for L.A. LIVE’s two mixed-use anchor buildings made up of retail, restaurants, offices, a museum and entertainment space, a 720-seat theater, a 1,000-room condominium hotel, and ESPN’s West Coast broadcasting headquarters. Complete with a 40,000-SF public plaza, L.A. LIVE underscores the city’s reputation as one of the world’s most dynamic entertainment hubs.
