CallisonRKTL designs an elegantly planned, sustainable community, at First Street in Manchester.
CallisonRTKL has been commissioned for architectural and interior design services for a mix of studio and onebed to three-bed units with varying levels of specification for this build-torent project in Manchester—the first of a larger portfolio of buildings in the area by Patrizia UK. Located in the heart of the new cultural quarter of the city, First Street is comprised of 624 apartments across two plots linked externally by a bridge above an external raised garden the size of a football pitch. Intensive charrette work with the client has delivered high quality design results targeted at the local rental demographics.
The development’s contemporary look and feel is a reflection of the area’s industrial heritage. In keeping with residential trends pinpointing communal amenities as key to renter retention, the entrance lobby and main amenity space is purposefully and flexibly designed so that these spaces may evolve and change over time. The surrounding city and neighborhood are amenities in and of themselves, with ground-floor commercial units.
