Columbus Center
Inspired by the legendary explorations of its namesake, Columbus Center is located close to downtown Coral Gables where the Spanish influence on local architecture is abundantly prevalent.
Responsive to historically influenced surroundings and yet appealing to a young demographic, CallisonRTKL’s design for the leasing center, lobby and public spaces of Columbus Center, a multifamily rental complex in Coral Gables, FL, takes an experimental approach in blending traditional and modern concepts.
Inspired by the legendary explorations of its namesake, Columbus Center is located close to downtown Coral Gables where the Spanish influence on local architecture is abundantly prevalent. The design team’s goal was to translate this traditional design into a more contemporary version—where the old world discovers the new—through traditional patterns combined with modern furnishings and finishes. Plentiful amenities, such as a club lounge featuring flexible space for private and public gatherings, as well as a business center, fitness center and outdoor pool deck add to the development’s social value for residents. LEED guidelines steered the selection of environmentally sound, locally sourced materials and energy efficient light fixtures for interior spaces.
