Boao's revitalization pays close attention to its natural attributes.
Boao on Hainan Island’s eastern coast is a well-known area of natural beauty. Characterized by rivers, lakes and natural hot springs, it is one of China’s most rapidly growing tourist destinations. But with the town also hosting the annual Boao Forum for Asia, the site was in need a major update to cope with the growing demand on amenities and infrastructure. CallisonRTKL responded to this with a master plan for a 12,200-hectare mixed-use resort which strengthens the site’s connections with important transport links and public recreational space, while conserving its relationship with the surrounding environment. With a variety of upscale leisure facilities, five-star resort, new eco-friendly town centre and conference centre, the plan underlines Boao as the complete destination health, retail and business.
