Addison Circle

A typical sprawling suburb gets a “New Urbanism” overhaul and a new long-term lease on community life.

In the early 1990s, the Town of Addison, a first-ring suburb of Dallas, found itself with plenty of tax revenue from commercial development, but without a sense of place or character. Through a visioning process with CallisonRTKL, the town identified an 80-acre site as its last chance to create a heart for the community. The result is a high-density, mixed-use district with a pedestrian-friendly street grid, a series of public parks and a landmark sculpture that all define community life in Addison, act as a sustainable alternative to suburban sprawl and stand the test of time more than 20 years later.
