Jeff Gunning began his professional career with RTKL in 1984 and now leads the Retail Mixed-Use practice area for CallisonRTKL. Prior to that he led the Commercial Practice for North America, representing the Retail, Hospitality, and Residential sectors. Previously, as leader of RTKL’s Retail / Entertainment Sector since 1998, he helped to solidify RTKL’s position as the world’s leading shopping center design practice. CallisonRTKL has been recognized over 100 times by the International Council of Shopping Centers for excellence in the design of retail-driven projects, and are the number one retail design practice in the world in both shopping center and store design.

His leadership has shaped CallisonRTKL’s holistic approach to design, melding urban design, architecture, interior architecture and environmental graphic design to create experiential places that resonate with a sense of community and expand the boundaries of art and architecture. Jeff’s experience has been focused on large scale, retail driven mixed use developments combining retail, entertainment, sport, residential, office, hotel, and other uses into synergistic environments known for their commercial success and lasting sense of place. His projects have been instrumental in CallisonRTKL’s international expansion into Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. Jeff is also a frequent contributor to industry publications and a speaker at ICSC, ULI, AIA and other industry conferences. He was elevated to Fellowship in the American Institute of Architects in 2019.
